Weighted Grade Calculator
This weighted grade calculator works out your overall class grade when each part counts for a different amount. Add every category from your syllabus, like homework, quizzes, and the final, with its grade and its weight, and you'll see your weighted grade and letter grade update live. It's the fast way to answer what grade do I have, and it'll show how an upcoming score would move things before the work's even due.

What is a weighted grade?
A weighted grade counts each part of your class by how much it's worth, rather than treating everything the same. Your syllabus usually splits the grade into categories, like homework, quizzes, a midterm, and a final, and gives each a weight that adds up to 100%. A final worth 40% pulls your grade far harder than a quiz worth 5%, which is exactly why you'll use a weighted grade instead of a plain average.

How to calculate your weighted grade
The weighted grade formula is short, and here's how it runs for a typical class:
- 1
Multiply each grade by its weightHomework 92 x 20 = 1,840, quizzes 85 x 15 = 1,275, midterm 78 x 25 = 1,950, final 88 x 40 = 3,520.
- 2
Add those products1,840 + 1,275 + 1,950 + 3,520 = 8,585.
- 3
Divide by the total weight8,585 divided by 100 is about 85.9%, which is a B.
Letter grade scale
The common US percentage-to-letter scale. Your school's cutoffs may vary, so it's worth checking your syllabus near a boundary.
| Percentage | Letter |
|---|---|
| 97 - 100 | A+ |
| 93 - 96 | A |
| 90 - 92 | A- |
| 87 - 89 | B+ |
| 83 - 86 | B |
| 80 - 82 | B- |
| 77 - 79 | C+ |
| 73 - 76 | C |
| 70 - 72 | C- |
| 67 - 69 | D+ |
| 63 - 66 | D |
| 60 - 62 | D- |
| Below 60 | F |
Frequently asked questions
Multiply each category's grade by its weight, add those up, then divide by the total weight. So if homework is 92% at 20%, quizzes 85% at 15%, a midterm 78% at 25%, and a final 88% at 40%, the weighted grade is (92x20 + 85x15 + 78x25 + 88x40) divided by 100, which is about 85.9%. This weighted grade calculator does that sum the moment you type, so you're never crunching it by hand.
Weighted grade = the sum of (grade x weight) divided by the sum of the weights. When your weights already add up to 100, you can just take the sum of (grade x weight) and divide by 100. The tool handles both, and it'll normalize the result if your weights don't add up to exactly 100.
Ideally yes, since a syllabus usually splits the grade into parts that total 100%. If yours don't, this calculator still works, because it divides by whatever your weights add up to. It also flags the total so you can check it against your syllabus and catch a missing category.
Enter every graded category from your syllabus, its current grade, and its weight, and the overall grade at the top is what you've got right now. It updates live, so you can try a score on an upcoming assignment and watch how your class grade moves before the work is even due.
A simple average treats every score equally, while a weighted grade counts each category by how much it matters. A final worth 40% moves your grade far more than a quiz worth 5%. That's why a weighted grade, not a plain average, is what most classes actually use to decide your mark.
This tool shows the letter beside your percentage using the common US scale: 90 and above is an A, 80s a B, 70s a C, 60s a D, and below 60 an F, with plus and minus bands inside each. Your school's exact cutoffs may differ, so it's worth a look at your syllabus if you're near a boundary.
